As the ministry leaders of Rancho del Rey, our goal will always be to serve God’s people with the love of Christ. We are regular Christians who happened to be blessed with the ability to help others grow in their relationship with Jesus. Yes, we're paid to work for the church, but our goal is to be just a tiny part of what God does through His people at Rancho del Rey.
Matt Tague | Senior Pastor |
Matt was born and raised in Carlsbad, Calif. Although he grew up in a devout Christian home, he struggled and rebelled against the Lord as a teenager. However, at eighteen, Matt gave in to God's love and submitted to Jesus. Soon after, he met and married his wife Kelli. They now have five children and love the role that God has given them as parents. In 1998, Matt graduated from Vanguard University with a degree in Ministry and Leadership. For the last fifteen years, he has worked for a variety of Christian ministries including Horizon Christian Fellowship in San Diego, the Christian Research Institute in Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., and Carlsbad Community Church in Carlsbad, Calif. In 2005, the Lord called Matt to plant Rancho del Rey Christian Church in Carlsbad, Calif. Matt's heart desire is to help people see Jesus in all his glory. His life's calling is to present the Jesus of the Bible to people who don't yet believe, and to encourage fellow Christ-followers to live in complete, life-altering obedience to God. He recently authored his first book, Read the Word: The Bible Was Written for You. |

Jon Rohland | Worship Leader |
Jon was born and raised in Southern California until the age of 12 when his family moved to Northern Idaho. Growing up in a Christian home, he wrestled with how his beliefs ought to affect his life. As a freshman at the University of Idaho, Jon experienced God's love and grace in an all-satisfying way and has aimed to follow Jesus ever since. Jon's desire to find a career in animation took him out of the university setting and off to Canada, where he completed his education at the Vancouver Film School in 1999. God immediately provided an animation job in Los Angeles, which brought him back to where he started--Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, Calif. At a church Bible study, Jon met his wife Heidi and they walked down the aisle in August 2000. Although currently a lead artist for a video game developer in Sorrento Valley, God is working out Jon's heart for ministry and love for music in exciting ways. Since teaching himself to play the guitar in high school, he has led worship and ministered to youth on the volunteer staff at both Grace Community Church and Carlsbad Community Church in Carlsbad, Calif. He enjoys writing and recording music, and he has a passion to enlarge people's view of God by encouraging them to worship in spirit and truth—not just through song, but by joyfully submitting every part of their lives to Jesus. Jon has been leading worship at Rancho del Rey since 2008. |
Garyn Stang | Children's Coordinator |
Garyn was born and raised in San Diego. She grew up around lots of activity and children. Garyn found a love for helping children at an early age. Around five years old, Garyn started taking dance lessons and found a passion. By age sixteen she found that her two passions could be put together, and started teaching her first dance classes to 3-4year olds. In 2002, Garyn dedicated her life to the Lord. It didn’t take long for her to find a way to apply her gift of working with children to help out at church. She found herself as the assistant leader over K-2nd grade teachers in Children’s Ministry at The Rock Church. She taught first graders, choreographed and led kids worship, and worked with teachers to constantly improve the Sunday program. Garyn continued to serve in her position at the Rock Church until coming to Rancho del Rey in 2006. Before taking on the role as Children’s Coordinator, Garyn was a dance teacher for children ages 3-18. She continues to teach ballet, tap, jazz and lyrical at Step by Step Dance. Although being with kids almost seven days a week could seem overwhelming, Garyn wouldn’t have it any other way. Her ministry is not only here with the children of Rancho del Rey but also with her students who face tough decisions in the world daily. “There are so many unrealistic and inappropriate role models for kids these days. I do my best to be the positive role model and inspire our kids by showing the Lord through my actions, speech, and the way I live my life.” |

We consider it a privilege and an honor to help raise up the next generation for meaningful ministry. That is why we have an intern program. Gifted young people looking to go into ministry are given responsibilities in the church in order to equip them for ministry and to evaluate whether vocational ministry is right for them. They are discipled by RdR pastors and trained in the basics of practical ministry. |
